Do you enjoy the game of Pickleball? Are you someone that wants to increase your skill level and have multiple opportunities to play? Do you want to play without the hassle of having to pay daily fees? If so, the City of Knoxville has created a Pickleball Membership Program! Register TODAY!
$70 plus $20 if non-City resident
Why are there fees?
*Continued growth and interest in the Pickleball community has created the need for more level-based play in addition to Open Pickleball Play.
*Consistent complaints (from players of all levels) regarding Open Pickleball Play has created a need for a compromise that serves players of all levels.
*Our department is committed to the growth of Pickleball and therefore, we will continue to provide:
-Addition of Pickleball lines to Recreation Center floors
-Equipment at indoor sites (nets, balls and paddles)
-Conversion of tennis courts to permanent Pickleball Courts
-Expense of staff supervision during offerings outside facility operating hours
-Flexibility in facility operation hours to offer pickleball play
*To allow continued offerings during winter and summer seasons when other programs occupy the Pickleball locations. (most other programs are canceled during these peak times)
*To offer instruction to new players and to provide future trainings and play implementation to seasoned players (skills challenges, clinics, etc.)
What are the benefits?
*The revenue generated can be spent toward future pickleball-related expenses and staff expenses for open play outside normal hours.
*We will start getting Pickleball community data. (number of “members” and revenue from offerings speaks volumes!)
*Additional support will be provided and includes gym availability for open play, leagues, events and tournaments.
What does my membership include?
*No daily fee for Pickleball.
*Discounted pricing for events, leagues, block times and gym rentals.
*No additional tournament fees for playing multiple events.
*If given permission, member information (name, contact info, level/rating) will be added to KPRD Pickleball Website (in case someone is looking for others to join a block time).
*Receive periodic newsletters with pickleball information.
Leagues-multiple week offering by KPRD based on type of play and skill level (For example, Men’s Doubles 4.0+ on Tuesday nights at Milton Roberts 6pm-7:30pm)
Block Times-multiple week offering organized by an individual or group who determines who participates, format, etc. (For example, a group of 12+ people want to play every week at a Rec Center for 6 weeks on Friday nights from 6pm-7:30pm. This would allow a group to invite others to fill their group. If a play can’t attend, player or organizer would need to find a sub for the week missed.)
Gym Rentals- small group who rents gym space outside normal hours for an hourly rate. Members receive discounted rate depending on number of courts at gym (1 or 3).
*League and block time play is only permitted during Fall and Spring seasons. Fees will be established on a case by case basis due to number of players, during versus outside of operating hours, number of courts, etc.
Future Plans/Future Needs
*Support/play at additional sites.
*Addition of pickleball lines to 2 of the 3 tennis courts at Inskip Park.
*Pickleball Courts with Lights:
-Tyson Park now has pickleball lines on 3 tennis courts with lights
-Same fees as tennis will apply that will be separate from general Pickleball membership
-Development of Pickleball Committee who can represent the pickleball community (ALL levels of play)
